Commonplace book, [ca. 1825-1830].

Manuscript collection, in various hands, of poems, poetical extracts, epitaphs, and prose anecdotes. Several poems on nature and flowers. Several love poems, elegies, and poems on virtues. Brief excerpts attributed to Byron, Chaucer, Wordsworth, Pope, and Arthur O'Connor. Mentions of: Napoleon Bonaparte and the battle of Waterloo; a flood in St. Petersburg; an emperor of China; the destruction of the Assyrians. One poem in mirror script. Includes a few crayon and watercolor drawings, primarily of landscape and churches, with other architectural and natural detail drawings. Of note is a full page colored illustration depicting a stack of loose papers, with anecdotes, riddles, and an excerpt from the Bridesmaids' Chorus from Carl Maria von Weber's 1821 opera "Der Freischütz."
